Equity
-
Equity is where we focus on an individuals needs, and to acknowledge that in any space differences will exist and people require support in different ways. Equity acknowledges that we all have different needs, experiences and opportunities, if we can identify the barriers and inequalities that people experience then we can help to elevate the people who are on the margins. The easiest and quickest way to do this is to listen to the living experience of anybody that’s marginalised, to accept it and work with it. *Diversity is what makes us as a human race, to try to homogenise us into white is good, straight is good, middle class is good means that there’s av very thin white line of matter

How do we design a better system, or improve the current one? Good design focusses on connections between the components or elements of design rather than the components themselves. This next part of the design stage we’re looking at connections and the people that you’re trying to bring into this space. Lets use an example to help our focus, we’ll use the example of organising a convergence meeting, looking at the actual physical venue, the target audience and speakers and how to widen that sense of engagement for all involved. At the same time think about your own experiences when you have been/felt alienated from spaces, perceived or actual, because it adds a lot more resonance to the work that we are doing.

Inclusion Inclusion goes one step further than accessibility. With inclusivity and inclusion we need to consider everybody, this includes disabled people, ethnic minorities and different racial groups, and provides positive pathways towards a holistic universal system to design spaces that are open to all and actively promoted to all, respecting every individuals right to be able to express themselves and present themselves taking into account their cultural background, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity. *You as a person however you present yourself are great and are welcome Inclusion focuses more on the learning, the accessibility, and good communications and the support needs of the individuals but taking away the assumptions, the labels and trying to address or remove the unconscious bias present.
